Professional Profile


The course analyse thoroughly all the aspects connected to planning clothes in an industrial production. With a strongly personalized approach, all the techniques of prototype-making from an industrial point of view will be studied and the industrial usage of CAD Lectra will also be object of study.

The industrial Pattern Maker is nowadays one of the most demanded profession in this sector and the employment at the end of the training courses is around 95% of students. They have found a job, in which the competences gained in the course were required, within the first 3 months from the end of the course itself.

The competences acquired offer real job opportunities as a traditional pattern maker, but strongly increasing if these competences are accompanied by highly specialized training courses like the Fashion CAD, in a logic of “intensive integrated path” which appears to be unique in terms of employment effectiveness.

Part one


The working tools of a pattern maker

Measures and proportions

study of commodities: knowledge and analysis of the main textiles and accessories – Basic knowledge of leather

Design of the basic pattern of Skirts:

close-fitting with or without darts, mini-skirt with darts, half flared skirt, divided skirt, pleated skirt; examples of the various modifications

Pattern of the basic pattern of Tops:

With or without darts, with reduced dart (front), with extended armhole; examples of the various modifications

Pattern of the basic pattern of Sleeves:

Long sleeve, two pieces sleeve, men’s sleeve, Kimono sleeve, raglan sleeve, hammer sleeve, yoke sleeve; examples of modifications of sleeves, examples of construction of sleeves

Pattern of the basic pattern of Collars:

Construction of collars (close collar, sporty collar, man’s collar, shawl collar, collar for modification, baby collar, sailor collar, mandarin collar, double band collar, shirt’s collar),

Pattern of the basic pattern of Dresses:
Dress without darts, mini-dress, without darts drainpipe dress, with darts drainpipe dree or flared dress.



Part Two


Pattern of a woman’s jacket and a ‘tuta’;

Modification on scale of the jacket;

The various modifications of dresses; modification of 4 product typologies, dresses and patterned jacket;

Life-size modification of a pattern for fashion plate, with linings, canvas and adhesives;

Modification on scale of a pair of trousers and a ‘tuta’, of 2 jackets and overcoats;

Life-size modification of the elaborated patterns: practices;

Transformation, tailoring and testing of pattern in normal sizes:

Explanation and realization of a patterned dress.

Extracting patterned base from a normal practice;

Introduction to fashion plate for representation in technical chart;

Interpretation and elaboration of a technical chart;

Evaluation of the use of fabric, linings, canvas and adhesives;

Rudiments of industrial technology and characteristics of textiles;

Methods of placing and practice in fabric cutting;

Industrial tailoring of a prototype;

Outlines of quality control, important and critical points;

Prototype control and modifications of the pattern in an industrial context;

Size chart, development chart and introduction to the bases for sizes development;

Systems of industrial development: manual and CAD

Introduction to CAD:

Pattern digitalization, the basic pattern and introduction to various modifications on video, the development and the positioning;

Short outlines of decentralized production.


Training Methodology


Theoretical lessons, workshop, visits to firms

The single course will be carried on by professionals and teachers with a well-established work and teaching experience in this sector.

So their approach will be finalized to provide constantly updated technical competences, which can be helpful in the prompt insertion in working contexts.

The Institute puts at participants’ disposal all the didactical materials in digital format, downloadable from the dedicated section in Modartech portal. At the moment of enrolling each participant will receive a personal password to free access the dedicated section, where all the course related texts, images and video can be found.

With the same password students can also access the self-marketing portal offered by the Institute. Here they can place curricula, profiles and works, being this an auto-promotion instruments which represents a reference point for all the Modartech Group companies looking for trained personnel.
