From the Heart of Tuscany to Canada, Celebrating Creativity and Italian Style. Istituto Modartech took part in the “Moda sotto le stelle” Fashion Show at ItalfestMTL, Canada’s leading festival dedicated to Italian culture, now in its 32nd edition.
On Saturday, August 9, in front of an international audience of over half a million visitors, Alice Olivieri and Simone Privitelli, students of the Fashion Design program, presented their capsule collections, expressions of research, innovation, and high craftsmanship.
The collections showcased two complementary visions of contemporary Made in Italy fashion:
-
“Where’s Dog At?” by Alice Olivieri: a project exploring the emotional bond between humans and their pets, translated into sartorial language. Wool, linen, cashmere, and natural fibers obtained from dog undercoat were crafted using artisanal techniques such as needle felting and fulling, creating garments that convey a new concept of sustainability.
-
“Skin Diary” by Simone Privitelli: a narrative on the body as a trace of memory, bridging nature and technology. Self-produced latex from Hevea sap, thermochromic fabrics sensitive to touch, and 3D accessories made from recycled rubber compose a collection balancing delicacy and formal simplicity, merging tradition with innovation.
The students also participated in an educational path enriched with mentoring sessions and a brand lab experience in collaboration with COCHIC, a renowned Canadian maison committed to innovation, sustainability, and timeless elegance. This opportunity allowed them to experiment firsthand with the brand’s extensible and adaptable materials, transforming them into creative tools to reinterpret garments.
Organized by the National Congress of Italian-Canadians – Québec, under the patronage of the Italian Consulate General in Montreal and in collaboration with the École Supérieure de Mode at ESG UQAM, the event offered a valuable platform to promote cultural dialogue between Italy and Canada through fashion, art, and tradition.
