Chiara Balla wins the first prize of Milano Moda Graduate 2023, the contest organized by the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, dedicated to the best talents from fashion schools. The student of the three-year degree course in Fashion Design, won the jury with its “Burrnesh” collection, inspired by the women of the Balkans who dressed and behaved like men and were recognized as such by society.

Chiara was awarded by an international jury, made up of numerous experts in the fashion sector, who decided to award her the “CNMI Award” 2023, rewarding the best fashion designer among the excellence of Italian fashion academies. The final fashion show of Milano Moda Graduate took place at Palazzo Reale, during the Milan Fashion Week in September.

Chiara’s inspiration for her collection was the “Burrnesh”, women who lived within deeply patriarchal societies, where it was not accepted to live without the presence of a man. From here was born a collection halfway between tradition and innovation, made with fabrics of Italian origin and Casentino cloth, where small details such as prints and handmade embroidery are highlighted, the result of research and experimentation.

The story of this collection speaks of independence and the desire for redemptionexplains Chiara – These garments represent a form of freedom, which many women still cannot today have. I hope that the work done can lead me, one day, to be able to design my own clothing line. It’s my secret dream.
