Fashioning Sustainability Contest 2023

First prize in the Design Award category assigned to a student of the Fashion Design degree course.

The Fashioning Sustainability contest is an international, creative and educational event dedicated to young students of European Fashion and Design schools.
The initiative of Freudenberg Performance Materials Apparel and co-branding partner aims to promote cooperation and exchange between students and industry. The objective of the contest is also to draw attention to sustainability as a key element of innovation and represents an opportunity to transfer experiences and skills in a moment of radical change.

DENIMIZED KOI – Ilaria De Martino
She won the competition by winning the first prize in the Design Award section.

It is inspired by Japanese culture starting from the dualism of yin and yang and from the mythological legend of “koi carp” using scraps of fabric and recycled accessories giving them a new life and creating graphic motifs using the laser technique.

Sustainability has now become an essential requirement for a fashion item, a feature that designers pay more and more attention to. And sustainability is precisely the theme at the center of the Fashioning Sustainability Contest 2023, in which 19 fashion academies from all over Europe took part.

The contest jury saw the participation of representatives of important companies such as Freudenberg, Armani, Dolce&Gabbana, Area NYC, Tod’s, Caruso, Vitale Barberis Canonico, Hugo Boss, Martin Margiela, Asahi Kasei, ready to view the creative projects of young talents.

A selection of second year students of the Fashion Design degree course was asked to provide a personal interpretation of sustainable and innovative fashion by creating an outfit capable of combining fashion trends with sustainability, using an interlining from the Freudenberg sustainable range.
